The AC local train that has been a staple for commuters between Sealdah and Barasat has been extended to terminate at Bangaon, according to the latest announcement by the Eastern Railway. The new route will allow passengers to travel directly from Kolkata to the outskirts of the district without changing trains.
The extended service is part of a broader effort to streamline suburban rail operations and reduce congestion on the busy Sealdah–Barasat line. Train numbers and frequency remain unchanged, but the addition of the Bangaon segment offers greater flexibility for daily travellers.
Updated departure times from Sealdah and arrival times at Bangaon are now available on the railway’s website and at the information desks of Sealdah, Barasat and Bangaon stations. Passengers are encouraged to verify the timetable in advance, as minor adjustments may occur during the initial phase of the extension.
The extension is expected to cut travel time for commuters heading to Bangaon and the surrounding areas, enhancing the overall efficiency of the suburban rail network.
