The Bihar cabinet, convened by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, sanctioned ₹3,516 crore for a dual‑purpose project: upgrading the Vishnupad Temple area and building a river link between the Son and Falgu rivers. The plan intends to improve access to the historic pilgrimage site and create a new waterway corridor that could benefit local commerce.
The approval came as part of 17 decisions made during the meeting, which also included a memorandum of understanding to expand air connectivity. The MOU brings together the Civil Aviation Ministry, Airports Authority of India and the state government, aiming to increase flight frequencies and improve airport infrastructure.
Officials say the temple area development will involve road widening, improved signage, and better visitor facilities, while the river link is expected to support irrigation and transport. The project is slated to start in the next fiscal year, with completion targeted within five years.
The funding boost is seen as a step toward boosting tourism and economic activity in the region, with potential benefits for Kolkata‑bound travelers and local communities alike.
