The BJP has declared it will contest the municipal elections in Kolkata and Howrah independently, a move that marks a strategic shift in its local campaign approach. In a statement released to the press, party officials indicated that they are exploring a potential alliance with the New Communist Party of India (NCPI) to strengthen their position.
The announcement coincides with the final stages of campaign preparations across West Bengal’s largest cities. By contesting alone, the BJP aims to consolidate its voter base while keeping the door open for coalition talks that could influence the outcome.
Political observers suggest that a partnership with NCPI could broaden the BJP’s appeal among left‑leaning voters, potentially altering the traditional dynamics of urban elections in the state.
