Police in Murshidabad carried out a raid on a suspected gambling operation early this week. While officers were clearing the premises, several assailants hurled bombs at the team, prompting an immediate evacuation and a tactical response from the local police.
The blast caused minor injuries among the officers but no fatalities were reported. Following the confrontation, authorities secured the site and identified five suspects connected to the racket.
The arrested men are now in police custody and face charges related to illegal gambling and possession of explosives. The incident underscores the growing risk to law‑enforcement personnel in Bengal’s underground betting scene.
Local officials have pledged to intensify operations against such illicit activities in Murshidabad and surrounding districts.
