Finance Approval Secures Start of EM Bypass-New Town Flyover

After receiving final clearance from the Ministry of Finance, construction of the EM Bypass-New Town flyover in Kolkata is set to commence soon. The 1.6‑kilometre elevated road aims to ease traffic congestion around the New Town area by linking EM Bypass with the New Town corridor. Work is expected to start next month, with a projected completion date in 2025. The project is part of the city’s broader effort to improve connectivity and support rapid urban growth.

The Ministry of Finance has granted the final green light for the EM Bypass-New Town flyover project, a key piece of infrastructure aimed at reducing traffic bottlenecks in the rapidly developing New Town zone of Kolkata.

The elevated corridor, spanning roughly 1.6 kilometres, will connect the EM Bypass with the New Town corridor, providing a smoother flow for commuters and freight vehicles alike. Construction is slated to begin next month, with an expected completion by 2025.

City officials say the flyover will be a critical link in the broader network of roads designed to support Kolkata’s expanding population and economic activity. The project is part of the city’s long‑term strategy to enhance mobility and reduce travel times across the metropolitan area.
