IMD Warns Cyclone Arnab May Intensify; Andhra-Odisha Coast on Alert

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that the low‑pressure system named Cyclone Arnab in the Bay of Bengal could strengthen into a cyclonic storm. Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coastal districts are on high alert and have mobilised emergency measures. West Bengal authorities are monitoring the system closely, urging residents to stay updated and prepare for potential impacts.

The latest IMD bulletin identifies the Bay of Bengal system Arnab as a possible cyclonic storm that may intensify in the coming days. The department notes that while the system currently shows low‑pressure characteristics, rapid strengthening cannot be ruled out.

In response, the coastlines of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been placed on high alert, with local authorities readying evacuation plans and emergency shelters.

West Bengal’s meteorological office is tracking the development closely, as the cyclone’s path could affect coastal districts such as Howrah and North 24 Parganas. Residents are advised to keep abreast of official updates and take precautionary measures if necessary.
