A cluster of influenza cases has emerged at RG Kar School in Kolkata, with six girls confirmed positive after routine testing. Nine additional students are currently being monitored and treated at the nearby RG Kar Hospital. In an effort to curb transmission, the school’s hostel has been temporarily closed.

The local health department has advised all students, teachers and hostel residents to practice enhanced hand hygiene, wear masks in crowded areas and stay home if they feel unwell. Parents are encouraged to keep their children at home until the outbreak is under control.

Officials will continue to monitor the situation and will reopen the hostel once it is deemed safe. The school has pledged to cooperate fully with health authorities to ensure the well‑being of its community.
