The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has granted civic clearance to the Metro Rail Corporation’s Pink Line, a new 14‑km corridor linking Baranagar to Barrackpore. This approval marks a key milestone in the project’s development.

The Pink Line will comprise seven stations, providing a direct link between the northern suburbs and the city core. It is expected to reduce travel times and relieve congestion on the busy arterial roads.

The project is part of the MRC’s broader expansion plan to extend metro service across West Bengal. By improving last‑mile connectivity, the line is anticipated to boost local economies and support sustainable urban mobility.

With civic clearance in place, the next steps include detailed design, procurement and construction scheduling, with an anticipated completion date in the late 2020s.
