Nepal Exports $39M Electricity to India Following Flood Recovery

Cross-border power exports from Nepal to India have rebounded strongly, generating nearly $39 million in revenue within a month of severe weather disruptions. Energy flows faced a temporary setback following August flash floods that damaged power infrastructure. Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, confirmed that electricity transmission has fully recovered, stabilizing critical energy supplies flowing into the eastern regional grid network of India.

Cross-border energy trade between Nepal and India has achieved a swift recovery after severe rainfall damaged power infrastructure last month. Nepal exported electricity worth $39 million to India over a one-month period, demonstrating a rapid turnaround in grid connectivity and power generation.

The electricity flow experienced brief disruptions during August when flash floods inundated critical transmission corridors and generation facilities in the Himalayan region. Prompt repair work by power utilities ensured that transmission channels were restored without severe long-term impact on supply commitments.

Confirming the resumption of regular operations, Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), stated that power exports normalized quickly after the initial flood impact subsided. The restored supply provides vital energy support to cross-border grid networks serving eastern Indian states.
