The Kingdom of Oman has announced the construction of the Sohar Port, a new maritime facility positioned away from the heavily trafficked Strait of Hormuz. The location is strategically close to major oil and gas pipelines that run through the United Arab Emirates and eastern Saudi Arabia.
Officials say the port will enable India to secure more reliable access to Gulf energy supplies, circumventing the high‑risk maritime channel that has been subject to geopolitical tensions. By offering an alternative route, the project could reduce transit times and enhance supply chain resilience.
The development is part of a broader effort by the region to diversify energy logistics and strengthen economic ties with neighboring countries. While the exact timeline for operational readiness remains unclear, industry analysts predict the port could become a key node in the Gulf‑India energy corridor.
