Tamil Nadu Delays Breakfast Scheme Expansion to September 22

The state government has pushed back the launch of the expanded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme to September 22, citing the Model Code of Conduct in Chengalpattu and Tiruppur due to upcoming bypolls. The scheme will then roll out in all other districts, aiming to provide free breakfast to school children statewide.

The Tamil Nadu government has postponed the launch of the expanded Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme to September 22.

The expansion will cover all districts except Chengalpattu and Tiruppur, which are under the Model Code of Conduct because of upcoming by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram.

The decision aims to avoid electoral interference while ensuring the scheme reaches a wide student base. After the bypolls conclude, the rollout will resume, providing free breakfast to school children across the state.

The move reflects the government’s commitment to balancing public welfare programmes with electoral regulations.
