The West Bengal government has announced its decision to join the national Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme. Under the programme, starting in 2027, schoolgirls who meet the eligibility criteria will receive a monthly stipend of ₹2,000 to help cover tuition, books and other educational expenses.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to increase girls’ enrolment and reduce dropout rates in the state’s schools. Implementation will be overseen by the Department of School Education in partnership with district authorities and community organisations.

Officials say the stipend will provide a tangible incentive for families to keep their daughters in school, thereby encouraging long‑term educational outcomes and better future prospects for young women across West Bengal.
