The state government announced plans to set up a dedicated film industry park, Astro Park, in Nadia district and a biotechnology research hub in Kalimpong. The Government of West Bengal has revealed a new initiative to establish an Astro Park in the Nadia district, a dedicated space for film production and related services. The park is expected to provide modern studio facilities, post‑production units and support infrastructure, thereby creating jobs and encouraging the film industry to shift some operations to the state.

In parallel, the administration announced a Biotechnology Hub in Kalimpong. The hub will focus on research, development and commercialization of biotech products, with an emphasis on medicinal plants and agricultural innovations native to the Himalayan region.

Both projects are part of a broader strategy to diversify the state’s economy beyond traditional sectors. Officials said the Astro Park will be completed within a few years, while the Kalimpong hub will have an initial phase covering a 20‑acre campus.

Stakeholders from the film and biotech communities have welcomed the announcement, citing the potential for increased investment and skill development across the region.
