Kolkata Tourism Dept and ASI Plan Revamp of 135 Heritage Sites
West Bengal’s tourism department, in partnership with the Archaeological Survey of India, has announced a comprehensive restoration initiative targeting 135 heritage sites across the state. The project aims to preserve architectural integrity, improve visitor facilities and promote sustainable tourism. Funding will be sourced from state budgets and central grants, with technical support from ASI experts. Officials said the revamp will boost cultural tourism and create employment opportunities for local communities. The first phase is slated to begin in early 2025.
