Bengal Govt Aims to Reintroduce Chhath Puja at Rabindra and Subhas Sarobars

The West Bengal government is considering allowing Chhath Puja rituals at Rabindra Sarobar this year, after a National Green Tribunal ban in 2019. State Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul said the plan would include safeguards to prevent water pollution. If approved, the festival could return to both Rabindra and Subhas Sarobars.

The West Bengal government is looking to bring Chhath Puja back to Rabindra Sarobar and Subhas Sarobar, with the state Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul announcing that the plan would include safeguards to prevent pollution of the water bodies.

The proposal follows a 2019 ban by the National Green Tribunal that prohibited the festival on the lakes. If the government’s plan is approved, Chhath Puja could resume at both lakes this year, subject to measures to protect the water quality.
